Tramp! Tramp! Tramp!

Both the words and tune are attributed to George F. Root.  The chorus has been used for "Jesus Loves the Little Children."  I suspect that this might be an earlier melody, although some hymnals containing "Jesus Loves the Little Children" also attribute the melody to Root.  In any case, this is a beautiful melody that seems to me to be a singularly poor choice of tune for the subject matter.  The chorus fits okay with the lilting melody but the verses simply don't fit the melody, at least not in my mind!
